Aluminum checker plates (also called tread plates or diamond plates) are aluminum sheets with raised patterns on one surface providing excellent slip resistance. The raised pattern is formed through hot rolling with an engraved roller or through embossing. Available in 5-bar (most common), 3-bar, diamond, or single bar patterns.
Common alloys include 3003 (general purpose, good formability), 5052 (higher strength, corrosion resistant for marine use), and 6061 (structural, heat-treatable). Widely used for flooring, stair treads, truck beds, trailer floors, toolbox surfaces, and decorative applications requiring a combination of grip, durability, and lightweight properties.
